Happy Birthday Doug
For Doug's birthday, Sarah packed up their bags (since Doug has been working up in Manchester) with all their camping gear and we headed to Norway for some kayak camping on the Fjaerlandsfjorden out of Balestrand. We flew in late so spent the first night at the YMCA hostel in Bergen, since we couldn't afford a hotel! (Norway is crazy expensive) Then we were up early to catch the ferry to Balestrand to begin the kayaking. We think the ferry ride was beautiful but we slept through most of it so aren't totally sure.

Once we were in Balestrand we got the kayaks, food and stuff all sorted out...
and headed out into the worst waves either of us has ever kayaked through (no pictures - we would have been into shore while trying to get the camera out of a pocket). We had to get out around the point in 2m waves against the wind - very hard work. Sarah complained that in all the pictures she saw before booking the trip the water was always like glass... oh well. And for the rest of the trip we never saw another wave (talk about bad timing!).So tired and soaking wet and cold Doug pulled over at a summer cabin to ask the owners where the nearest camping place was since all we could see was sheer cliffs. He was told there was a spot 5km further along but it wouldn't be as good as their lawn, so we pulled in and camped on their flat, soft lawn for the night. People sure are nice over there! They even brought us ice cream for desert.
