Ice Cold
London may not have had any snow but the city does a great job of making it feel like winter with outdoor ice rinks at famous sights all around the city like at The Tower of London, Kew Gardens, Hampton Court and the one we went to, The Natural History Museum. It is a big deal, you have to pre-buy tickets on Ticket Master and show up at the right time for your hour on the ice. And it is way more expensive then ice skating should be but it had to be done.
Grandad
Unfortunately Christmas vacation brought some sad news. The evening we flew into Vancouver Sarah's dad received a call from his sister to say that Sarah's Grandad had passed away. Luckily with being in Europe this year we have had the chance to see more of him, including a trip up to see him a couple weeks earlier, during which he was in great spirits and anxious to try Skype the next time we came up (who knew a grandad could be so with the times!)
So almost as soon as we returned to London we headed up to Skipton for his memorial service. It was a nice service given by a vicar who, knowing Sarah's grandad, gave an address during which he admitted that grandad would not agree with the "religious nonsense" but that he had his own spirituality and is now in good hands. Grandad would have approved.
